George “Fred” Downing
October 27, 1943 –April 7, 2018
George“Fred” Downing, 74, of Washington C.H, passed away at Four Seasons of Washington Court House. He was born October 27, 1943 in Waverly, Ohio to the late George M. and Ida Maxine Richardson Downing. George retired from Sugar Creek Packing in 1986, a Member of First Baptist Church and is a veteran of the United States Navy serving during the Vietnam Era. George served on the USS Douglas H. Fox, the USS Greenwich Bay AVP41 and the Richard E. Kruse DD849, he was a member of the American Legion Post 25, American Legion 40 and 8, Cheminot in the Grand DU Ohio, Chief Degare Ohio Local 888, Playing Santa, Tutor at Chaffin and Jeffersonville for Young Readers and the Fayette County Honor Guard.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a brother Harold Downing and Sister Jackie Pless
George is survived by, his wife Ruth Parrett Downing; sons Eric (Amy) Downing of Washington C.H. Galen (Carol) Downing of Arizona, Fredrick (Jennifer) Downing of Kansas Rick (Dawn) Devault of Newark, Millard (Katina) Harmon of Washington C.H. and Kenneth Harmon of Washington C.H.; daughters Daveane Downing of Jeffersonville, Sandy Downing of Columbus and Dorraine Downing of Jeffersonville, Kim (Scott) Lute of Lucasville and Sherry (Steve) Thomas of Arkansas, Charity (Travis) Picklesimer of Leesburg; brother John Downing of Chillicothe; sister Cheryl of California and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and his good friend Buddy.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday April 12, 2018 at 7:00PM at the Morrow Funeral Home, Washington C.H. with Pastor Joe Current officiating. Burial will be in the Plesant Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 pm until time of services.
